“WHO IS PRAYING FOR YOU?” Wednesday Minute

” I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.”  John 17:9 NIV

Read:   John 17:6-26

Do you know who is always…always…praying for you even when you don’t even think about it or when you feel you don’t deserve prayers?

The answer is clear, yet often never thought about.  I urge everyone to pick up you Bibles and read all of today’s scriptures in John 17, verses 6-26.

Just as JESUS prayed for HIS disciples in these verses, HE is praying for all believers…for those GOD has given HIM.   Verse 20 tells us: “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message.”  That means you!   JESUS is praying for you in ways you are not even aware.   JESUS knows all your tomorrows.   HE is praying for you to make right decisions, for good things to come to you, for things you may need and for you to know and depend upon HIM.

The same GOD who created you is the same GOD who is hearing prayers for you from HIS SON, our BLESSED RISEN SAVIOUR, and you have the HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD living every minute of every day in you.   Christians are the only ones who have such a loving and intimate TRIUNE GOD.

Have you given your life to JESUS?   That is the only way you will have HIM praying for you.  As John 17:9 tells us; “I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.”

Today’s prayer:  “Thank YOU, JESUS, for praying for me.   I know this by YOUR grace as in this life, I am not worthy.   YOUR prayers are the Blessing I receive today for loving YOU.  Amen.”

“I PLAN TO LIVE FOREVER!” Sunday Sermonette

” Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.  I am the bread of life. “  John 6: 47-48 NIV

Read:   John 6:43-59

The misguided man openly joked; “I plan to live forever and so far I have been successful.”    Unfortunately, he was talking about living forever in a decaying body on this earth.   That is not a part of GOD’S plan and it is not even wishful thinking.

GOD has another plan.   Our life on this earth is a thousand times smaller than the period at the end of this sentence.  But, for believers we have a life to come that is larger, more magnificent, while basking in the HOLY light of GOD for all eternity.

Unfortunately, most will never see the glory of Heaven.   They are so absorbed with living their life on this earth, they never consider the GOD who created them, JESUS who died for them or the HOLY SPIRIT who could reside with them until they are welcomed into Heaven.   They all will be cast aside, never knowing the salvation they can have.

If you want to be successful at living forever, change your focus.  Living forever is living for all eternity.  Our days on this earth are limited, but for those who are believers our days are never to be limited.

Today’s prayer:  “Thank YOU, JESUS, for coming to earth to offer eternity to all who trust and believe in YOU.   I will pray today for all those who do not know YOU as SAVIOUR of the world.  Amen. ”

“I JUST CAN’T DO IT!” Wednesday Minute

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NIV

Read:   John 15:1-8

When was the last time you gave up and said; “I just can’t do it!”?  We all have moments of self doubts and feelings of inadequacy.   The secret is to allow them to only be moments and allow them to be permanent solutions.

When GOD’S people were threatened by the Philistine army with Goliath as the towering giant to be feared, there was a simple solution.   David, a young shepherd boy, with no military experience had the solution…a simple small stone.   One single stone from his sling solved the problem that Saul and his army could not do.   Saul said he just couldn’t do it.   David said he could do it, knowing GOD would be there with him.

You may be faced with a health problem, an impossible job, a child who has turned from GOD and is in trouble, a difficult marriage or a personal situation.   Are you giving up?   Are you saying; “I just can’t do it!”?    You can do it.   You can take that bad situation and turn it around.   You can do all you can do to correct it.   Then when you can’t do any more, turn to GOD for strength to do even more.

Just as GOD supplied that simple stone for David, HE can supply HIS strength when you think you ‘just can’t do it’.   You can with GOD’S help.  There is no limit of what you can do when you depend upon GOD.

Don’t allow your own weakness to control you.   Satan can do a lot of damage, but we can hurt ourselves with self doubts and feelings of inadequacy.   Take control by trusting GOD.

Today’s prayer:  “Thank YOU, LORD for taking the lead when I am failing myself.   Remind me and help me to understand I can do all through YOU.   Amen.”

“GO TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH!” Sunday Sermonette

” Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”  1Corinthians 9:24 NIV

Read:   1Corinthians 9:24-27

Did you ever hear the expression: “Go to the ends of the earth”?.   It seems, it means different things to different people.   In reality, it means what it says.

It means we should go to the greatest extremes to do all that we should do.   If we have a task, we need to use every resource available to us to complete our efforts.   This means we should use every thing we have in our marriages, our jobs, relationships with others…but most of all we should go to the ends of the earth in our worship of GOD.

Do all you can do and more.   Attend church to fellowship with other believers who can lift you up and you can lift them up.   Attend to learn more about the HOLY TRINITY OF GOD.   Join a weekly Bible study group.   Set aside a very specific time each day to have a very personal and meaningful conversation with GOD. Don’t forget those 10 second prayers throughout the day when you need help and to pray for someone in need.  Find a way of helping one other person every day.  Go to the ends of the earth in all you do everyday 24/7.

When you go to the ends of the earth, guess who you will find there?   GOD.   HE has been there all along, just waiting for you.   To all the ends of the earth and to every expanse of the Heavens, GOD is there.

Today’s prayer:  “Thank YOU, JESUS, for going to the ends of the earth for me.   Help me to go to the ends of the earth in all I do for YOU.   Amen.”

“NEVER TAKE A RISK?” Wednesday Minute

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”  Matthew 6:33 NIV

Read:   Matthew 6:25-34

Do you contemplate your every move, calculate the odds and take risk only when you feel the odds are in your favor or do you just rush in?

What if you had one thing that would always be better than anything else when it came to evaluating risk?   What if this one thing were better than hindsight, posted statistics and better than what you can see for yourself?

What is the one thing you can always, always trust?   Faith.  GOD gave you the faith to trust in HIM.   HE did not give you a little faith or a lot of faith.  GOD gave you faith…all of it…so much you cannot even measure it.  All you have to do is accept it and act upon your wants and needs.

Our lack of faith often is a result of our lack of action.   Why should GOD give us HIS strength of faith, when we fail to do our part?   We must do our part.   Do you expect GOD to answer your prayers when you are not doing all…all…you can do on your own?

When we ask GOD to do something, we should already be doing all we can for ourselves.   There is little risk when we ask GOD to help us do what we are already doing.  If want something, rely upon GOD’S faith in you as you go after what you want.

Depend upon GOD when you are doing your part.

Today’s prayer:  “Thank YOU, LORD, for being there when I need YOU.    Help me be assertive in my actions to have the things or situations I am asking of YOU.  Amen.”

“YOU JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND!” Sunday Sermonette

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;”  Proverbs 3:5 NIV

Read:   Proverbs 3:5-8

Have you ever tried to explain a situation to someone who just didn’t understand?   The more you explain, it seems they just don’t understand.  They just don’t get it.

Sometimes, we are so into ourselves, our way of doing and thinking, we forget others may see things differently.    We may be right in what we believe, but we might also be less than right.   In fact, we may be dead wrong.

Did you ever hear there are two kinds of people in this world?   There is you, then there is everyone else.  Do you feel you think differently than everyone else?   Do you ever feel you know you are right and wonder why others don’t see things your way?

GOD did make you unique.   You may look different.  You may be taller, shorter, better looking or maybe less attractive than you would prefer.   Your hair may be thinner or thicker than a lot of others.   And face it, you may be thinner or thicker than others as well.   GOD made you the way you are.

But, HE did not make you so completely different than everyone else so that you can believe you know more or are wiser than everyone else.   Just look at those around you.   GOD created them, just as HE created you.   HE created each of us as HE alone decided.

So, when someone doesn’t understand you, stop.   Ask yourself why they don’t understand you.   Look at the situation as they may see it.   They fact is they just don’t understand because of many reasons.   Learn to understand why they don’t understand.  Do what you can to help them understand and then you can possibly understand your differences.

Today’s prayer:  “Thank YOU, GOD, for understanding how difficult I can be.   Help me to see others as YOU see them and help me be less judgmental of others.  Amen.”

“STOP, IT HURTS TOO MUCH!” Wednesday Minute

“All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.”   Psalm 38: 9 NIV

Read:  Psalm 38:9-22

Emotional and physical pain can be so tremendous we want to scream: “Stop, it hurts too much”.   We take and take and when we get to a point, it seems we can’t take any more, but we can.   We can go another step.   We can take on more.   We can endure more.

We can depend upon GOD, when it seems GOD has abandoned us during these painful times.  GOD is always there, even when it seems HE is nowhere in sight.

When Moses was struggling to free his people from Egypt, Pharaoh hardened his heart and put more burdens on the people.   He increased their workload.   He demanded they make even more bricks.   How could they believe and follow Moses when his efforts for freedom increased the work and pain by going to Pharaoh?

Have you gone through a similar time?   Maybe, you are going thru the tortures of emotional or physical pain today.  There is hope.  Not a little hope…a lot of hope.   And it may get worse.  Just as with GOD’S people in Egypt it will be temporary.    You have a blessing coming to you.

You may not be able to see or understand what GOD has for you, still GOD has a plan for your life to be better.   The emotional or physical pain may get worse before it gets better, but GOD is with you and HE is offering you HIS strength.

Ask GOD to stop the pain.  Tell HIM ‘it hurts too much’.   HE will give you the comfort you need that comes from HIM.

Today’s prayer:  “Thank YOU, LORD, for taking my pains away.   I want to depend upon YOU instead of myself.    Remind me, please to take all my problems to YOU.   Amen.”

“Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, so no one can say that you were baptized in my name.  1Corinthians 1:13-15 NIV

 Read:   1Corinthians 1:10-31

Have you ever known someone who was very direct, who was as subtle as a sledgehammer?   You probably would not describe a sledgehammer to your face or any contact with any part of your body as very subtle.

There are times when we need that sledgehammer of truth.  There are times when a shadowy offering of information just does not convey the message.

Paul was a sledgehammer of truth.    While known as Saul, he slaughtered Christians.   Saul was a hater of Christians, a vile and angry man.   Then JESUS called him into the family of believers, but not patiently.   JESUS blinded Saul and took him to his knees in order to get Saul’s attention.

Saul found JESUS and accepted the name of Paul as JESUS instructed.  Then, Paul carried the sledgehammer of truth, the Gospel of JESUS.    When he preached, he preached the truth.   When the churches were being established he spoke of the wonderful grace of JESUS.  But, when they turned and did not listen he told them again message of JESUS CHRIST with the strength of a sledgehammer.

Can you, when needed, tell others of the wonderful world of JESUS,
your SAVIOUR, the SON OF GOD with the strength of a sledgehammer?

Today’s prayer:  “JESUS, MY SAVIOUR, Thank YOU for giving me YOUR strength to live by and to tell others of YOUR love and of YOUR salvation story….and when necessary to stand with the sledgehammer of truth.  Amen.”

“I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.”  Psalm 119:125

Read:  Psalm 119:121-128

Do you have discernment?   Some do and some don’t.   The dictionary tells us in everyday life if we have perception we have discernment.  Would you like discernment?

Discernment comes from faith.   We can have discernment because the SPIRIT OF GOD is alive in us as believers.   GOD leads us with a clear understanding without having a conscious, worldly judgment.

You can have discernment of understanding even the most complicated lessons of scripture.   You can have discernment of good or bad reasons, knowing the purpose or motives of others in a situation.  Discernment of the whys and why nots of any situation is the HOLY SPIRIT guiding you by HIS perfection.

Those who have not accepted JESUS as their SAVIOUR will not have discernment.   The HOLY SPIRIT comes only to those who have admitted their sinful lives and accepted the eternal forgiveness given by JESUS.  Then you can call upon the SPIRIT OF GOD alive in you at any time.   HE will guide you with discernment if you will follow HIS lead.

The more you have discernment of GOD’S WORD, the more you will have discernment of situations and of others in your daily life.

Today’s prayer:  “Thank YOU, LORD, for giving me YOUR guidance through YOUR discernment.   Help me to call upon YOU when I need the clarity of understand of judgment that comes only through YOU.  Amen.”
