“HE DOESN’T DESERVE IT!”

“Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come.'”  Matthew 22:8 NIV Read:  Matthew 22:1-14 “He doesn’t deserve it!” a worker commented after hearing his co-worker had been promoted and given a raise.   Even in simple things, we can become both judge and jury…too often in great error.   Sometimes, these judgments are rooted in jealousy, while our ignorance of all the facts can be the reason we misjudge.   Other times we may be right in our perception, but wrong in our accusations.   We need to have the discernment to know and the obedience to not judge but allow GOD to control the situation.  We see evil triumphing over good and those responsible seemingly being rewarded.   Growing richer in money and power; there seems to be little accountability.   If we could see those we know passing into Heaven, would we pass the same judgment?  Knowing the sins of others on this earth, would we question our GOD in allowing such sinners into Heaven?   Turn the table.   If you are to be forgiven of all your sins, would you deserve it?   Do you deserve to be washed in the blood of our RISEN SAVIOUR and to spend eternity with HIM?   Think of all the things you have done.   Think of the things you could have done for others and didn’t.   Then ask yourself; “Do I deserve it?”   If you are truly a believer, you deserve salvation only because JESUS is wearing your rags of sin.   Today’s prayer:  “Thank YOU, LORD, for giving me all I...

“NEVER TURN YOUR BACK!”

“They thrust the needy from the path and force all the poor of the land into hiding.”   Job 24:4 NIV   Read:  Job 24 We have all heard the warning to never turn our backs.   The expression is laced with the dangers of not being aware of something or someone who could do us harm.   But, there is another way of learning from that old expression.   We should never turn our backs on the good things in life either.   In particular, we should never turn our back on a believer.   If you ever turn your back and disregard the needs or refuse to reach out to a believer, you are turning your back on CHRIST.   When we shed our responsibilities, we are abandoning our duties as followers of our RISEN LORD.   Has someone recently asked for your help and you gave it a passing thought and decided you did not have the time or money to aid them?   After all, you thought, somebody else will help them.   The only problem is the somebody else you thought would help them was also thinking they did not have the time or money either.   Guess what…we all have the time.  The problem is we accept the things of this earth as more important than the things JESUS told us to do.  It is not too late.   Go to that person and give them the help they need.   You will be glad you did.   Today’s prayer:  “LORD, Thank YOU for all YOU have done for me.   Please forgive me for not doing for others.   YOU have...

“I AM NOT ARGUING . . .”

“Then the Lord said to Cain, ‘Where is your brother Abel?’ ‘I don’t know,’ he replied. ‘Am I my brother’s keeper?'”   Genesis 4:9 NIV   Read:  Genesis 4:1-16   An irritated man continued his defensive tirade, with his boss, affirming; “I am not arguing with you; I am just explaining to you why I am right!”.   In Genesis 4, we learn of Cain lying to GOD after he killed his brother Abel.   GOD knew better.   Then Cain argued with GOD over the punishment GOD was to use.  Cain was wrong on all counts, yet he kept up his argument.   Have you ever continued an argument just to prove you were right?   Did it do you any good or did it just provoke the other person even more?   Sometimes, we want to be right so much, we go to great lengths to prove our point when in reality there is no point to be made.  We can choose to walk away and be the better person rather than dig our heels in.  We have a better chance of convincing the other person we are right when we are gracious than when we are obstinate.   Today’s prayer:  “LORD, Thank YOU for forgiving me when I am so wrong.   Help me to be more understanding and less rigid in my dealings with others.  Amen.”  ...

“DISCIPLE OR APOSTLE?”

“Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.”    Matthew 10:1  NIV   Read:  Matthew 10:1-20 When we think of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, James and others we are correct in knowing they were among the first disciples of JESUS, our LORD AND SAVIOUR.   At the same time, these men of GOD became known as apostles of JESUS.   We can learn from the scriptures an apostle is also a disciple, yet all disciples are not apostles.  A disciple is a follower of CHRIST; a student of scripture, who born again and is faithful in believing in all JESUS tells us and then shares that faith in order to teach others.   An apostle is all this and more.   Upon accepting CHRIST as your SAVIOUR, your new role is to be a disciple.   Are you living a life as a disciple?   JESUS gave the original disciples the power to heal and to drive out demons whom HE called HIS apostles.   Mark 3:14 tells us JESUS: “…designating them apostles…” This power was given later to Paul, Matthias (who replaced Judas) and perhaps a dozen others by JESUS.   Some churches claim a hierarchy of apostles, while some individuals claim to be apostles with the power to heal the sick and to drive demons from others.  Others hold there are no new apostles, that all apostles were given the authority only by JESUS.   In truth, most struggle with the task of being faithful disciples.   Many of those you attend church with are disciples, while many...

“BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE!”

“For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.”   1Corinthians 2:11 NIV   Read:  1Corinthians 2:1-16   About two months ago, a local TV weatherman predicted this would be a drier and warmer winter than normal.   Within days, he was proven wrong and is being proved even more wrong daily as this bitter cold continues.   As smart as we think we are, as much education and experience we have; we know so little.   It is humbling to admit we are wrong.   GOD knows all and we know all about nothing.   We, all too often, depend upon our own self dependent confidence to make decisions.   We think we know best and more times than not find ourselves asking our FATHER why things are going as they are.   Rather than trust our own instincts, we need to take those thoughts and ask GOD if we should act upon what we think.  We go to doctors when we think we have an illness.  We consult an attorney for advice in legal situations.   We depend upon skilled tradesmen to repair our appliances and cars.  Why don’t we depend upon the most high authority?   GOD is waiting to hear from you.   HE created you so you would fellowship with HIM.  Instead of depending upon yourself, depend on the ONE whom knows all.   GOD is the expert…the only expert…in your life.   Don’t continue making the same mistakes over and over.   Take your problems and lay them...

“WHERE ARE YOU GOING?”

“Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus replied,”Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.”  John 13:36 NIV   Read:  John 3:16-21   It seems, we are all coming from somewhere or going to somewhere.  Where are you going?  Do you have a destination?  You may have a geographic destination, an emotional destination or a spiritual destination.   There is a problem with both a geographic destination or an emotional place you are led to be.   Both are only temporary.   They may satisfy you for hours or even years.   Yet, in time neither will have nothing to offer you.   GOD has a place for you.   The place is so special; HE sent HIS son to take on all your sinful burdens so you can spend all eternity with HIM.  John 3:16 tells us:  “For GOD so loved the world that he gave HIS one and only SON, that whoever believes in HIM shall not perish but have eternal life.”   Then HE clarifies and removes all doubt in verse 17:  “For GOD did not send HIS SON into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through HIM.”   Scripture tells us only those who have chosen JESUS as their SAVIOUR will spend eternity in Heaven.   We can see that is very true by just looking around at the sin in this world.   Most don’t believe.  Many of those who claim to be believers are living out their lives just as the non-believers do and will never see to glory of Heaven.   Do you...
