“saying to them,‘Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me.'” Matthew 21:2 NIV
Read: Matthew 21:1-16
Did you ever ride a donkey? As stubborn as they can be, they are easy to ride and can carry heavy loads. I have a donkey. ‘Ben’ is a Bethlehem donkey. Some call them Israeli donkeys of JESUS donkeys. It is believed by many these donkeys descended from the donkey JESUS rode into the city just days before HIS mock trial and crucifixion. The donkeys have a cross on their shoulders. A colored line appears in the hair from one shoulder to the other across the mane forming a perfect cross…just where JESUS sat.
JESUS gave instructions for the disciples to bring HIM a colt…a young donkey to ride into the city. Why did HE choose a lowly donkey? Perhaps, it showed the humbleness of CHRIST. Kings, of the time, would ride stallions with ornate decorations before leading their troops into battle or in a victorious parade after a battle. Here we have the most glorious KING of all entering on a slow trotting donkey. HE was not a military king, but KING of all.
We should be so humble.
Let us prepare ourselves. Our actions and our words should be as humble as JESUS on these days leading up to RESURRECTION SUNDAY. Share the story of JESUS’ humble ride upon a donkey with someone today. Tell them the wonderful story of JESUS. HE can be their SAVIOUR also.
Today’s prayer: “LORD JESUS, Thank YOU for preparing a way for me to enter Heaven. I promise to be conscious of my words and actions and make them as humble as YOU expect. Amen.”
