“Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.  But Peter and John replied, ‘Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him?  You be the judges!  As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.'”  Acts 4:18-20 NIV

Several years ago, I was asked to open a business association’s monthly meeting with a prayer.   Knowing many of the members, I was happy to accommodate the request.

Upon arriving, the president of the association took me aside.   He had a special request.    Stumbling for the right words, he told me it would be best if I prayed to GOD, but I should not mention JESUS.   He felt since not every member was a Christian, I should not mention JESUS…but ‘saying’ GOD would be okay.

I carefully explained that would not be fair to those who were not Christians.   Many of them knew me and would think it strange I would disinherit my SAVIOUR.   These men would expect me to pray and to close my prayer with “…in the name of our RISEN SAVIOUR, Amen.

Of course, nothing else was said about it and I prayed as I always did.   You see, the president was afraid of insulting a few who would never even give it a thought.

Are you afraid of offending someone, yet have no problem with offending JESUS, THE HOLY SPIRIT and GOD?

CHRIST’S apostles were persecuted, stoned, imprisoned and some killed for standing up for JESUS.  There are innocent men, women and children being killed by the hundreds daily around the world for being Christians.  Stand firm in your faith.   Stand by JESUS.   HE died for you.

Today’s prayer: “JESUS MY LORD, Thank YOU for never forsaking me.  Help me to stand strong in my faith, telling everyone of the forgiving salvation which comes only from YOU.  Amen.”
