“THE SOLDIER’S PRAYER”

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”  James 1:5 NIV

Read:  James 1:2-8

Several years ago, I wrote a devotional about a soldier’s prayer.   Since I had so many ask for it again, it bears repeating.

“The Soldier’s Prayer” is told to have been found on the body of a fallen confederate soldier near the end of the civil war.  Which side the fallen soldier fought is of no meaning.  This man had an understanding and appreciation of the richness of GOD’S love.

I pray for each reading this eloquent poem that you gain the understanding and faith GOD wants for you and from you.  Discover the weakness, infirmity, poverty, weakness and life that GOD gave you.  Find joy in our CREATOR so that HE may find joy in you.
I asked God for strength, that I might achieve;

I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked for health, that I might do greater things;
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things
.
I asked for riches, that I might be happy;
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men;
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life;
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am among all men most richly blessed.
Today’s prayer:  Repeat the soldier’s prayer above…from your heart!
