WHOSE FEET WILL YOU WASH?

SCRIPTURE TELLS US OF JESUS WASHING HIS DISCIPLES’ FEET. JESUS WAS TEACHING THEM AT A TIME THEY WERE ARGUING AMONG THEMSELVES OVER WHO WAS MORE WORTHY THAN THE OTHER. JUST HOURS BEFORE JESUS WAS TO BE CRUCIFIED THEY STILL DID NOT UNDERSTAND THE EVENTS ABOUT TO BE PLAYED OUT. WITHIN HOURS JESUS WAS TO BE JUDGED, BEATEN AND CRUCIFIED. KNOWING THESE THINGS, JESUS WAS STILL HUMBLED TO WASH THE FEET OF HIS DISCIPLES.

JESUS EXPLAINED HIS HUMBLE ACTION AS HE WASHED THE GRIME FROM THE DISCIPLES’ FEET. THEIR FEET WERE EVIDENCE OF DIRT AND FILTH FROM THE LAND WITH LITTLE PROTECTION FROM THEIR STRAPPED SANDALS. THE WASHING OF FEET IS FIRST DISCUSSED IN GENESIS, THE FIRST BOOK OF THE BIBLE. NO MATTER HOW CLEAN ONE WAS, HIS FEET WERE KNOWN TO BE DIRTY. THE FEET JESUS WASHED WERE EXAMPLES OF THE FILTH IN OUR LIVES THAT NEEDS TO BE REMOVED. WE SHOULD WASH THE SINS FROM OUR LIVES AND HUMBLE OURSELVES AS SERVANTS IN HELPING OTHERS REMOVE THE SINS FROM THEIR LIVES.

ARE YOU PARTICIPATING IN THE RACE OF OUR SOCIETY TO PROVE YOU ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN OTHERS, TO HAVE MORE MONEY OR TO HAVE WHAT SOMEONE ELSE DOES NOT HAVE? DO YOU SEE YOURSELF BETTER THAN OTHERS?

WHOSE FEET WILL YOU WASH TODAY? CHRIST DID IT FOR YOU. YOU CAN DO IT ALSO. HUMBLE YOURSELF. GET YOUR PAIL AND TOWEL.

“NOW THAT I, YOUR LORD AND TEACHER, HAVE WASHED YOUR FEET, YOU SHOULD ALSO WASH ONE ANOTHER’S FEET.” JOHN 13:14 NIV
